YOUR GUIDE TO SUMMERFEST 2017 Every Band You Have to See This Year

12 stages. 800 bands. 900,000 people. This is Summerfest: the world’s largest music festival. Held annually in Milwaukee, the two-week long music heaven has hosted some of the biggest acts in the world—and this year is no different. While the major artists play at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band, The Chainsmokers, Chris Stapleton, Bob Dylan, etc.), the real experience is paying $20 for admission to the 11 side stages and unlimited freedom over who you want to see. Of course, there are way too many bands to include, but here are ManScore’s must see performances at this year’s Summerfest.

Dispatch | June 30 – 10pm @ Harley-Davidson Pavilion
Arguably the biggest unsigned band in music history, Dispatch gives their fans an energy night after night that is unsurpassed by most. The band has sold out Madison Square Garden and holds the record for the largest independent music event in history with 110,000 people showing up to Hatch Shell in Boston to see them. With crowd favorites like Elias, The General and Two Coins, I can guarantee you’ll be a fan by the end of the show—that is, if you aren’t already…

Shinedown | July 1 – 10pm @ Harley-Davidson Roadhouse
Don’t miss your chance to hear the one-of-a-kind voice of Brent Smith at this year’s Summerfest. Formed in 2001, Shinedown has sold more than 10 million albums and has had 11 number one singles. A powerhouse of a band, their hard rock sound is unique and commanding, one that translates exceedingly well to the live stage.

Ludacris | July 2 – 10:15pm @ Miller Lite Oasis
If you haven’t been to the Summerfest grounds, The Miller Lite Oasis is the place to be if you want to experience a party atmosphere. And who better to see there than the one and only Ludacris. When not starring in the Fast and Furious franchise, Luda can be found on stage, giving high-octane hip-hop performances for his fans. This one will be fun.

Third Eye Blind | July 4 – 9:45pm @ BMO Harris Pavilion
The soundtrack of the late ‘90s, Third Eye Blind is still going strong and selling out venues across the country. Most people remember 3eb by their hits Semi Charmed Life and Jumper, but the band is so much more once you dive deep into their discography. Stephen Jenkins’ is a lyrical genius and you’d be hard pressed to find someone with more life on stage.

Welshly Arms | July 5 – 8pm @ Johnson Control’s World Stage
Led by lead singer and master guitarist Sam Getz, Welshly Arms has quickly gained success based on their reputation for putting on a mind-blowing live show. With their growing popularity, the band has been featured in movie trailers, TV/radio campaigns and Netflix promos. Expect a full serving of blues influenced rock with some r&b and hints of indie rock at this performance.

A Day to Remember | July 6 – 10pm @ Harley-Davidson Roadhouse
Metalcore meets pop punk with A Day to Remember on July 6 at Summerfest. Expect some screaming with some catchy choruses and a whole lot of energy from lead singer Jeremy McKinnon. If mosh pits are your thing, get there early and get up close, but whatever you do, don’t pass up the opportunity to see ADTR live.

Walk The Moon | July 7 – 10:15pm @ Miller Lite Oasis
If you’ve heard Walk The Moon’s song, “Shut Up and Dance,” then you already know what type of show to expect from this super rock group. Get ready for a healthy dose of 80s style synthesizers and driving beats that will make you want to…well…dance. Doesn’t get much better than Friday night at the Miller Lite Oasis.

The Band Perry | July 8 – 9:45pm @ BMO Harris Pavilion
As far as country acts go, you won’t find a better one than Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry on the Summerfest grounds this year. Perfect harmonies galore, this band impresses live, even if you aren’t necessarily a country fan. I challenge you not to be moved when they break into, “If I Die Young.”

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness | July 8 – 10pm @ Uline Warehouse Stage
The front man for bands Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin, Andrew McMahon is back and better than ever with his new indie pop project. Anticipate upbeat heartfelt songs about family, life and love, all while McMahon bangs behind his grand piano. From personal experience, he is absolutely incredible live and worth every single penny paid to see him.

The Shins | July 9 – 9:45pm @ BMO Harris Pavilion
Touring for around 20 years, The Shins know how to rock a crowd. Call their sound indie or call it pop—whatever you call it, you can be assured that it is unique and original. James Mercer’s vocals will hit you right in the feels and I promise you’ll leave this show feeling better than when you walked in. I can’t think of a better way to close out Summerfest 2017 than with The Shins @ BMO Harris Pavilion.
