EPIC BEER LABELS Start Your Collection

Whether you’re decorating the basement man cave or the bachelor pad, having some fun beer bottles and cans on display is always an excellent choice. Yes, you could go on eBay or Facebook and purchase someone’s collection, but what fun is that? Instead, display the beer you consume. The Chicago brewing scene includes some places that offer spectacular label artwork, and the beer within the bottle or can is worth every penny. Why collect stamps when you can collect beer?

Spiteful Brewing
When you brew a beer like God Damn Pigeon Porter and Dumb Donald, you’re not the type of brewery that worries about ruffling a few (pigeon) feathers. The artwork adorning Spiteful beer is bold and sometimes brash. But, it’s also hilarious. While Spiteful may own the reputation of an “in your face” brewery, the beer demonstrates remarkable skill as well as diversity and range; the liquid is as tasty as the artwork is fun.

Pipeworks
The new Pipeworks Dojo, located at the production facility at 3912 W. Mclean Ave in Chicago, allows fans to grab a bottle or can to go, so grabbing a few bottles for your collection is even easier. While there, pick up a classic Unicorn or Lizard, or one of its Closer Encounters. Pipeworks rotates its beer frequently, so check the website for what’s around. No matter what you find though, the artwork will be stellar, and the beer rarely disappoints.

Myths and Legends
The brewery formerly known as Urban Legend may have a new name, but its ability to intertwine great beer and good stories remain; the artwork embodies the idea that a picture is worth 1000 words. The beer names and labels depict myths, legends and the occasional historical account. What a tasty way to enjoy some good literature, right?

Tighthead
Located in Mundelein, many Chicagoans may not be aware that Tighthead has been around since 2011, well before the vast majority of Chicago-area craft breweries emerged. The label artwork differs a bit from others as it's not comical, nor does it attempt to tell a story. Rather, Tighthead artwork is something one could hang on the living room wall; even mom would approve!

Hop Butcher for the World
Chicago artist Dan Grzeca and his sketchings have turned Hop Butcher labels into some of the city’s best, and the nation's beer drinkers are taking notice. In fact, USA Today readers voted Hop Butcher’s Destination Moon as the number eight beer label.

350 Brewing
Honestly, some of the artwork might give you nightmares—it’s creepy! But, that’s what makes it so unique. It may not be for everyone, but 350 is a brewery that does things the 350 way. Punk attitude, punk vibe. But you know what else 350 has? Super friendly staff, great beer, excellent food and awesome label artwork.

3 Floyds Brewing
The label designs at 3 Floyds are legendary. Indeed, you can purchase large versions of the artwork on various internet shopping sites. Online beer communities regularly engage in discussions centered around the brewery’s artwork. Whether you’re drinking Dark Lord, Gumball or Zombie Dust, it is hard to imagine the process of drinking 3 Floyds and then adding the bottle to your man cave collection will be anything other than enjoyable.
