THE MOST MESMERIZING CRAFTING VIDEOS OUT THERE Axe Making, Watchmaking, Sword Making...Amazing

I love quality objects. When made with integrity and precision, an otherwise commonplace object can be a thing of true beauty. But there’s also (and often even more) beauty in the crafting process that goes into making those unique objects. Here ManScore presents you with the best crafting videos that are out there. Sit back, relax, and get inspired.

The Birth of A Tool - Part I: Axe Making (by John Neeman Tools)
This is one of my all-time favorite videos in existence. It was originally published with the Bon Iver song “Holocene” as the soundtrack, and I still think this video is better than the similarly-themed music video for the song that later debuted to great accolades. This video is essentially a master craftsman’s dream life: a cabin in Latvia where you beautifully handcraft manly and useful tools. You’ll see the craftsman melt down his steel over a slowly kindled fire, pound out the blade, temper it, sharpen it, hand-carve the axe handle with old tools, attach it all, and cut out the leather accoutrements. I truly watch this video at least once a year to keep myself grounded and inspired.

Adidas Ultra Boost (AKA “The World’s Best Running Shoe)
Adidas partnered with Hyperbeast Process to produce this stunning video documenting the entire process of crafting what is known as the world’s best running shoe. In an age of ever-increasing automation, it’s both encouraging and truly surprising to witness the level of human involvement at every step of the process. And not just humans running the machines but a whole host of activities like painting the intermediary glue and sanding pieces together.

Rolex Submariner Watchmaking Demonstration
Have you ever wanted to see the inner workings of a Rolex Submariner watch? Now you can with this unique video from Watchfinder & Co. head, Tony Williams. The watch he takes apart first debuted in 1953 as the diving watch of the everyman before being adopted by the British Defense Ministry.

FORGED (The Making of A Damascus Steel Gladius)
Phil Holland first produced this video as a test of the new Red Weapon 8K camera. Much like that infamous shot in Easy Rider featuring a motorcycle mechanic and a horse farrier practicing their respective crafts, this video marries two techniques separated by hundreds of years: cutting edge visual technology documenting an old world practice of forging Damascus steel. Using a 93 layer technique, Tony Swatton forges his modern take on a Roman gladius in his last days in the workshop he’d used for 25 years. One viewing will make you itching to take on the armies of Mordor.

A Wattle and Daub Hut (by Primitive Technology)
One of the dearest poems to my heart is W. B. Yeats “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” in which the poet yearns for the day he’s able to build himself a cabin along the shores of the lake made “of clay and wattles.” And here’s literally that. Made over the course of 30 days, this narration-free video documents how a man made this cabin entirely from scratch—and shows how you can do it too. The only tools used were a hand axe, sticks, and clay pots. The final result is a unique cabin complete with a fireplace and chimney. You’ll be shocked how mesmerizing this video is.
